Kenneth entered the small building, looking around. The cafe sure seemed like a nice place. Willow was wrapped around his neck like a scarf, and Tabor lay on his left shoulder, under his shirt. There was, after all, no visible notice against pets or animals.
He sat down at an empty table. There were only a few other people in the small room. They seemed too preoccupied to bother him. Good, he thought to himself. He was pretty sick of people, and he hoped he wouldn't have to snap into his angry self.
Fingering his cool, shark tooth necklace, Kenneth ordered a cup of coffee. The waitress gave him a withering glance, then walked away. Oh yeah. I'm sixteen, Kenneth thought to himself, chuckling. Sometimes, he forgot about age-- it was an irrelevant thing, really. But coffee in the morning helped sooth his nerves, and that's exactly what he needed. Soothed nerves... and some alone time.

Claudia made her way into the cafe'. It smelled repulsive with the stench of coffee in the air, but it couldn't be helped. People like coffee, but that wasn't important right now. What was more important was planning the training for her newly found team. Dwandrell showed much promise and Claudia didn't want to to have her underdeveloped before the beginning of the school year. The fun part had was about to begin. All that needed to be done was set up the stage.
She took at a lonely table away from the small crowd, however not everyone could be avoided. There was a young boy sitting at a table a few feet away from her. Drinking coffee. She gave a sigh as a waitress made her way to her with a pad an pencil, eager to take her order.
"Hello, how are doing today? Would you like a coffee?" Claudia slowly turned her attention up with a glare, but softened her expression be fore it could be registered.
"No, thank you. Could I get a hot chocolate with a Strawberry pastry, please. Oh and a Strawberry Smoothie to go."
"Alright, will that be all?
"No, tell the the manager, Mia, that Claudia Vergessenheit is here and is wondering if she can have back her old job." The waitress was taken aback by this last order and looked interested at Claudia.
"Um, Mia doesn't work here anymore. She doesn't even own the place now. This place has been under new management for a year now. But when she still did own the place she talked about someone named Claudia a lot. He dream employee, i guess." This information made Claudia concerned.
"Where is Mia now? do you know?"
"No," the waitress shook her head, "I don't know anyone that does. After she sold the cafe' she just sort of vanished."
"I see...." The was silence between the two of them for a moment.
"Hey, let em get your order and I'll tell the new manager that you're seeking employment, okay?" She then left, quickly making her way to the back room. Claudia reclined her on her knuckles as she soaked in what just happened.

Kenneth thanked the kind waitress when his coffee arrived, and stirred it a little to cool it. He didn't like hot coffee-- he was more of an iced-coffee guy, but warm was fine, too.
When the billows of steam coming from the cup softened, Kenneth took a tentative sip and winced. There was sugar in it. He concentrated a little bit on the flavor of black coffee and took another sip. Perfect. Powers sure do come in handy, Kenneth gloated in his mind.
The little bell on the door rang, and a girl around his age walked in, sitting a few feet away at another table. Kenneth was feeling better, mood-wise, but he wasn't too sure he wanted social interaction at the moment. Just concentrate on the coffee, Kenn, he thought to himself, taking another sip. A world with coffee is a world without worries.
And this wonderful plan WOULD have worked, if not for Willow, the social butterfly of a ferret. She scampered down Kenneth's arm and jumped off the table, delicately landing on the floor before shooting off to the stranger and climbing up her leg onto her lap. Stupid ferret, he cursed in his mind.

(sorry for being late about 100 years. This new job is killing me. I feel it is safe to assume that the interaction is with me.)
With her face still swimming in her palm, Claudia pondered as to why Mia would ell and leave without a word. A few ideas came to mind, but Claudia fondly hoped they were not the case at all. That would be too tragic to bear. With such thoughts circling round her she didn't notice the furry little creature scurrying up her leg till it was there on her lap, blink at her. Claudia couldn't help but smile at the sight of it.
"Aw, aren't you just adorable? What are you doing here? Is your owner here?"
All she got were squeaks, but she wouldn't have been too surprised if it had actually had spoken.

Kenneth watched on, cursing his conflicting emotions. He wanted to die of embarrassment, kill the ferret, make up an excuse as to why Willow was on a stranger's lap...
He drained his coffee, stood up, and walked over to the girl's table in a few simple strides. "Heeey," he started, not sure how to continue. "Umm... so I saw you over here..."
He wanted to smack himself. What am I doing, hitting on a girl I don't know!??! he cursed at himself. Tabor shifted a spindly leg, making his shoulder itch. Kenneth tried again.
"That's my ferret." There we go! THAT'S more like it! he congratulated himself.

Claudia pulled her attention from the the lucid bulge of fluff on her lap and turned it to the person standing before her. The person seemed nervous, but she could place why. Maybe this person wasn't use to walking up to strangers. She didn't want to spook him more than situation was allowing, so she smiled and made eye contact.
"Oh," she responded, "This furry little thing is your. Well, he's very cute. What the beauty's name?" She looked the ferret over, admiring the shiny coat, warm body and quick heart beat. A very fine creature indeed.
Why have I never bothered to get a familiar or some sort of animal companion? All the others seem to have one. Maybe I should look into it. But what kind would suit my talents and not die on me?
The thoughts swam in her head for a while as she looked into the ferret's beady little eyes.

"She," Kenneth said automatically, stopping himself too late. "Ummm, my ferret. It's a she... I mean... SHE'S a she! I mean... umm... her name's Willow." He bit his lip to shut himself up, and started unconsciously rolling his shark tooth over in between three fingers. He broke eye contact and stared at the edge of the table. He drummed his fingers for a bit, then stopped. He rubbed an eye. He rolled his shoulder a bit where Tabor continued to fidget as he was.
Why can't I stay still? he wondered. Maybe I'm antsy to leave. I don't want to snap at a stranger, after all. I should leave... maybe go somewhere quieter...
"Umm... yeah..." Kenneth said, hesitantly, trying to direct her attention away from his edginess. Every little breath felt like the world was rocking uncontrollably. "Soo... Do YOU have any pets?"

"No, she "replied, "My parents always thought I may turn it into some sort of pseudo-natural creature...." The moment those words escaped her lips she knew she said the wrong thing.
Great job Claudia, now he's going to think you're a flayer of animals. Pseudo-naturals? Not the most comedic of topics. Nice.
"...Not...that I would ever turn anything into a pseudo-natural... I don't even have that kind of power." She remained quiet for a bit, Willow's squeaks being the only tempo of the world.
"*ahem* You attend Evale Grotton, right? since I've been there I seen students come in with all sorts of species of creatures by the ark full. The School is making new rules for handling and keeping such creatures on campus every other semester with each new type. I was always curious as to why students had animals companions or familiars. I don't know. I guess I just never had the need for one. I've been as good an ally as anyone one else could be for me. I've had good partners int he Others group, but since all the upper class-men left I've been on my own most of the time. Since I been in the Others group all I've been doing is training others to become competent rather than training an animal. I think its a little harder because people are more stubborn. Unlike animals who can't communicate directly expect through empathy, people have empathy and choose to ignore it. So that's why I've never had a pet... I guess."

Pseudo-natural? Kenneth thought. He suppressed a shudder and wondered what she meant.
Kenneth couldn't believe his ears. Life without animals? Is that possible!??! he pondered. "Yeah, I go to Evale. I'm in the junior class." She goes to Evale, to? he wondered. I wonder what kind of powers she has... He pushed that thought out of his head.
"Pets are like friends," Kenneth said. "Like, support... and they are comforting to have around." Tabor shifted again, and Kenneth subtly adjusted his shoulder. A spider on a shoulder? Not such a good idea...
"Animals are good listeners, I guess," he concluded. He stood by the table and rocked on his heels before realizing the key part of the conversation.
"Oh!" he said suddenly, holding out a hand. "Umm... my name is Ke-- err, Kenneth!"

Claudia giggled at his hesitance.
"My name is Claudia. I'm a senior. I'm one of the ancients there," she said sarcastically. "so don't mind my comments too much. Obviously I'm in the Others group." Claudia glanced back at Willow the back at Kenneth. "I take it that Willow here has some tie-in with your abilities," she replied as she stroked Willow's head, " so what group are in?"

Kenneth felt stupid. Why is this girl laughing? he wondered. Oh, man, I must seem like SUCH a big idiot.
"I..." He struggled for the right words, still not wanting to sound stupider than he already did-- if that was possible. "I'm not really in a group, I guess..." He reached up with his non-Tabor arm and fidgeted with the cord on his shark tooth necklace, running his fingers down the length of it and back up again.
"They keep moving me from one group to another..." He looked around at the few other people in the little cafe and lowered his voice so only Claudia could hear his words. "My power's a bit... broad..." He didn't explain any further in case she got jealous or something. That often happened...

Claudia could see that Kenneth was a little touchy about the subject of his powers. She definitely could relate.
"You don't need to tell me what your powers are if you don't want to. My powers are not something to everyone I meet, but I'm defiantly not ashamed of them," she reassured with a smile. " It's hard to believe you're already into your junior year and without a sound group. School must be difficult for you." She began to remember how things were for her when she began attending and how things have changed. The people, their torrence and acceptance, the citizens surroundings the school, the faculty. "But that's what makes us strong, the challenges set before us, right?"

Kenneth shifted from one foot to the other, then pulled a chair out from under the table and sat on its edge. He was sort of tired, and it didn't seem like he would be able to escape any time soon.
"I guess," he replied warily. He didn't really grasp what she was saying, and he was trying to figure out what her power was... if he even wanted to know. And he still didn't feel like explaining his power. It seemed like such a waste of energy to explain it to everyone he met...
"Sooo..." he started, trying to steer the conversation away from school in case anyone was listening in. "Senior, huh? Have you been in this school for the full four years, or..."

Claudia started feeling the pressure to keep this conversation alive. Maybe she was boring him. He didn't seem very interested in what she had to say, but he was asking a lot of questions. She didn't mind, she just felt strange that she might have made him feel awkward talking about her oblong powers.
"This will be my 4th and last year. I hope to go to school in order to maybe become a teacher at eh academy. So I hope to make the most of this last year. Find some people to make some memories with, share good times, have a senior year to remember."
As she spoke she saw the waitress from before exiting the back room. She seemed very worried about something or other. Hopefully nothing too serious. She could use some good news about now. "How about you?"

Kenneth shrugged. "I'm a junior-- one year below you. I've been here since freshman year, but I'm not too sure I want to stay..." Why did I just say that!??! he scolded himself. He cracked one of his knuckles. What a dumb habit...
"My brother's living all alone, now," he explained. "I sorta wanna get back to him. We grew up together, and I know he misses having company." Kenneth didn't know what to say after that. He stretched an arm out and twisted it a bit, feeling confined at the table.
